The beginning

I set up this blog in July, 2007, when our daughter informed us she was expecting a baby. Then I couldn't ever find it again. But today, downloading Picasa, I discovered it, and decided it's time to get this down.
We have been Christians for years, and our daughter professed her faith in Jesus Christ at about seven years old. But adults make choices, often with consequences, and she is no exception. While we didn't condone her behavior, we allowed her to continue to make choices.
Our daughter has always known she was adopted. We always told her that once she reached 18 she was free to contact her birth mom. We had contact info and made it available to her. Shortly after turning 18, she found her birth mom on myspace. Knowing she was adopted, and the difficult choices required, our daughter made a choice to keep her baby. Because she still lived with us, we agreed, but with hesitations. After all, it had been a very long time since we had a baby around, and we're not getting any younger.
All during the pregnancy we called the baby Harley (as in Harley-Davidson) since our last name is so close. It became quite a joke for all of us to talk to Harley before the baby was born. We would all tell this baby how much he/she was loved and how excited we were to meet him/her.
All along I expected a girl. Our daughter is her birth mom's second girl; the birth mom is the oldest of two girls. I bought girl clothes and planned to make a very girly classic pooh crib set.
No one was more surprised than this grandma when the baby was a little boy. He immediately stole my heart, and I fell hard. I grew up with sisters and had one daughter, so boys are really a mystery to me. But what fun to learn on such a cutie.
I will post more pictures and tell more of our challenges as I go along, but for now, it's a start.
If you find this, thanks for reading, and thanks for your comments.
